S.S.I. SPECTRECodename for Phantom III.

We have held the SpectreCodename for Phantom III Car up to dismantle the Gear Box. This was necessary to drill the .250" return hole under the front ball race housing.

We are having over oiling from the new Pistons, also the compressions not being even is upsetting the carburation. We have fitted the weaker slow running jets, handed over by W. Swindall. They have made a considerable improvement.
We are at present confronted with a loss of maximum speed, which up to now we cannot account for, but we suspect our new arrangement of cold air intakes crippling the gas at maximum revs.

21. G.{Mr Griffiths - Chief Accountant / Mr Gnapp} IV.

This Car should not have been sent out in the state it is in.
The Engine has got the same old Carburetter Silencer fitted, which we patched up during the previous test. It is breaking up and may fall off any time. The Cylinder side plates are leaking, and water pump gland leaking.
This is as the Car finished on the last trip.

PROPELLER SHAFT.

The mechanic joints look to be considerably worn. The front coupling requires new gland leathers.

GEAR BOX.

The box is just about worn out. We have sent a seperate report on the oil leaks.

SPRINGING.

The Springing is still poor, and the same as we reported on, during the last test.

BODY-WORK.

Patched-up Wings are not a paying job for France. We have to spend a considerable time on them, which could be better utilized.

Mr. Elliot may be able to tell us whether the painting was turned out, showing patches all over the wings, and Body work.
