Messrs. Rolls Royce Limited.

form first time.

We would very much appreciate your trying these pistons in connection with your oil consumption experiments, because if they are successful, they offer a marked advantage over the introduction of higher radial pressure scraper rings. This advantage is felt when the engines are put into production, because of the danger of high radial pressure rings causing excessive dryness with new bores and new bearings. The revised skirt form, on the other hand, gives ample clearance for oil when cold, which is the time when it is wanted, and appears to offer, as far as our tests go at any rate, a substantial contribution towards oil control when hot, without reducing the surface films to an excessive degree.

It would be very interesting indeed if you were able to confirm these results.

Yours faithfully,
FOR THE LIGHT PRODUCTION CO.LTD.

C.H.B. Brooks
GENERAL MANAGER.
