X.4056. RE REAR ROAD SPRINGS.

With reference to our note - DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}3/CB30-4-20, and "N" Scheme 333, on further consideration we thought it might be considered that the nibs on the end of the second plate, which it is suggested should be turned up, will be somewhat weak, and cannot be made strong except by spoiling the symetery of the spring.

We therefore make a further suggestion on "N" Scheme 346 of the two clips, one a very stiff clip holding two plates, and the other a long flexible clip, which is not supposed to do any work but simply prevents the plates from being too much displaced.

In this drawing we have also shewn a proposal to compensate for the two bolts in the clip by thickaning up the plate locally.

If the second plate is made to run through the roller it is thought that the rear-most clip may be considered unneecssary.

We have shewn the light clip holding seven plates but we think it may still be preferred to hold six, as before.
