Sg{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} has handed me Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}8/R3.6.39. dealing with two experimental cars which you now wish to dispose of - 35-EX and 28-G-VI. Presumably this latter car is the one that Mx{John H Maddocks - Chief Proving Officer} has been using.

If you have now finished with both these cars will you please hand them over to Hd{Mr Hayward/Mr Huddy}, so that all repairs that are needed can be carried out before they come to us for body renovation.

As regards 35-EX, I hope you will instruct Hd{Mr Hayward/Mr Huddy} to see that the material that is fitted on the dashboard to keep away heat and noise is properly fitted up, because I found this car excessively hot in the front seat on Tuesday last. In this respect it was much worse than the average P.III as I know it to-day.

Also, the bonnet had no shutters in it, whereas the standard P.III bonnet has shutters. I suppose these could be added. They certainly seem to be necessary in the hot weather.

As regards the simplified bottom tappet mechanism, which you are testing and which you suggest could be used on 35-EX, will you please say whether this mechanism is yet fitted to 35-EX. Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} rather took the view that it was, but reading your memo I am not certain whether it is actually fitted to this engine. If it is not we may be able to suggest a more useful car on which to test it. If it is fitted then please leave it on, and we will bear it in mind as soon as the car is in a fit state to use both as regards chassis and body repairs.
