Failures observed during a bump test on 40/50 front brakes, concerning a worm tube and cross steering lever.

X.1331 X.9940 Referring to your HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}3/LG2.4.24., is not the failure of the worm tube quite unique? Presumably you are satisfying yourselves that it is not due to faulty material or a defective piece, that is, nicked or flawed. Is it a ubas tube unhardened? If you are not sending the pieces to Mr. Royce we should be very much interested to see them down here. Referring to the fracture of the bolts holding the cross steering lever to the pivot we think this indicates that the cross steering lever is now stronger than the bolts, and as we should very much like to lighten this lever we suggest that one should be tried with a substantially reduced section all along its length, the material being taken away at those points which require clearance, that is, the corner which fouls the vertical pull rod, and corners which come in contact with the brake carrier. We presume in this case the front bracket of the tie bar had 4 bolts and not 3? DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} | ||
