For the attention of G. {Mr Griffiths - Chief Accountant / Mr Gnapp} Gaye Esq. Messrs. Rolls-Royce Ltd., DERBY. May 31st 1929. Dear Sirs, We have pleasure in enclosing herewith one sample set of fittings together with drawings of same, Nos. G.77106, G.53667 and assembly drawing of the proposed arrangement of the back axle fitting with the 5/16" B.S.F. banjo stud. You will notice that the Part G.53667 is identical with your drawing of the same number, except that the hexagon has been lengthened to accommodate the non-return valve, and we have also used this fitting as the centre piece in the back axle fitting assembly, the only difference being that a recess has been put in the back to accommodate a fibre washer. We think you will find all the fittings quite satisfactory with possibly the exception of the rear axle fitting, which looks objectionably top-heavy, although there appears to be sufficient clearance between the cross member. You may, however, consider it preferable to make the banjo stud portion from a larger hexagon, or alternatively, leave the hexagon possibly twice as deep as on our sample, but as long as the 5/16" shank is used it seems to us that this fitting is sure to look rather out of proportion. This class of steel work is really not exactly in our way of manufacture, although the small valve and fitting inside these parts is quite our class of work, and therefore we could either supply you with the valve and spring only, or if you so desire, supply the complete fittings. For the time being, however, we take it that the one model of each sent will be sufficient to enable you to carry out the tests. Yours faithfully, BENTON & STONE LTD Director. Encs. | ||
