COPY. July 7th. 1920. Oy-G.7720. To Mr. Belnap, c. to Mr. Nadin. From Mr. Olley. Re History of Monel Metal Gauze for Petrol Filters. A small sample of Monel Metal Gauze for Petrol Filters was taken by me to England last January. On December 15th. 1919, Mr. Caswell shipped a large sample sheet to England (addressed, I believe, to Mr. Platford his immediate chief). The only comment received was an acknowledgment from Platford to Caswell, which gave Caswell to understand that Hives was carrying out tests. Last January I explained to Mr. Royce, when showing him the model, how important it was to get something better than our present brass or copper tank gauzes, which go to pieces in six months due to acid in the gasoline. We recently received cabled instructions from Bailey to go ahead with the present Derby petrol tank design, without any mention being made of the use of Monel metal gauzes. On July 1st. 1920, I received a letter from Caswell enclosing copy of one from Mr. Greening of the B. Greening Co. of Hamilton, Ontario, makers of the gauze, in which Mr. Greening states that he has received an order from Derby for 2,000 of one type of petrol tank filter and 50 gross (7200) of another. This, I think, is an example of lack of proper information from Derby. Oy. | ||
