CHASSIS PETROL TANK.
RE MONEL METAL GAUZE FOR PETROL FILTER.
X 3667

Referring to EWT15/G5.8.20 and copy of OY's letter OY/G7.7.20, the point at issue is that we have only recently standardised Monel Metal, the reason why U.S.A. have not yet received notice of the change is because it was necessary for us to obtain from the makers the exact designation by which the particular class of Monel Metal Gauze we require was known.

We have actually cabled to Canada to the makers of the Gauze, for these particulars, and as soon as we receive same, we shall definitely instruct U.S.A. to adopt same.

Until we received OY's memo, we were not aware that the material in question had come through OY, at all. We thought it had been sent to us by Mr. Caswell, and we therefore were of the opinion that unless we gave the exact designation of the material, we should not be assured that America would be obtaining the right grade or type.

In view of the cable we have recently despatched pointing out that R.{Sir Henry Royce} has agreed that America should wait for the new petrol tank with side filler, Gauze, and Emergency Tank, it is obvious that the material, if ordered, would have been scrapped, but in any case, the foregoing shows that no time has been lost.
