->S/W...Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} c. to Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} 4117. C15/C3.7.31 Re GDP-63...Geoffrey Smith ----- Confirming our conversation on the telephone this afternoon, Mr. Geoffrey Smith of "The Autocar" is proposing to take another tour this year, through the Italian and Swiss Alps, for three weeks, commencing the beginning of the second week in August. You will remember that last year when he did a mountain tour he had perpetual boiling trouble and loss of water, and had to fill up at wayside streams. Therefore, unless we can considerably improve the cooling system he will not take the car this year. He has been offered cars of other makes, but we do not want him to take one of these if it can be avoided. There appear to be two alternatives:- (1) To improve his car. (2) To lend him a car. We would far sooner he used his present car, if possible, and we are in a position to assure him that he will not have similar trouble with it. I understand on the telephone today that you can probably fit a different type of radiator. Perhaps you will let me know what this is, and also what your views are about the unrestricted exhaust - if this will help very much and if it is an expensive alteration to make. There is also louvres to the bonnet, and presumably the endless belt. I should be glad if you will let me know what you suggest can be done. C.
