X5310 HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} To E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} from Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} re Second Speed Synchromesh on 20/25. Copy to Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager}Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} Sg{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}8/E24.4.34 I am in receipt of E6/HP.23.4.34 and note this is covered by the next 10,000 miles 20/25 for which the wide frame is proposed. The next 10,000 miles 20/25 is 21-G-4 but I do not think you mean this car so I presume it is really the car after the next. Assuming I am correct I should be glad to know how far away this test is. We have just had to order another 200 sets of 20/25 material, and at the present rate of output another batch will have to be ordered in about three months, and I should be very sorry to have to see us order another batch without second speed synchromesh so that I do hope that a special urge can be put on this job. I note that there was a suggestion back in December to use the Peregrine gearbox but I rather agree it would be better to use the J.III gearbox for the 20/25 and use the Peregrine gearbox on the Bentley if tests show it to be satisfactory.
