1181 Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/AFM.{Anthony F. Martindale}1/MH.{M. Huckerby} 24th. February 1938. Messrs. Richard Klinger Ltd., 120, Southwark St.{Capt. P. R. Strong}, LONDON, S.E.1. Your Ref. E.R. Dear Sirs, Reference your letter addressed to Mr.H.Royce, in which you request us to test your old type brake lining. We regret that we are unable to do so, for the following reasons. We have far more testing of brake linings to do than we can tackle. We therefore select such linings as we consider may be suitable. Against our better judgement we tested your last lining and it proved most unsatisfactory, in fact it juddered so violently that it smashed our test rig, and as yet we have not got it repaired. You have therefore absorbed far more than your fair share of time, and we are profoundly sceptical concerning your linings. Furthermore, you may realize that all other linings 8 years old are obsolete, and we have no reason to suppose yours was 8 years ahead of its time. Finally, the linings you sent do not fit our cars, and we have scrapped them. Yours faithfully, for ROLLS-ROYCE LTD. | ||
