GEAR BOX

Gear Box & Actuating Mechanism. RR. Schemes 225-233.N S.3530.
3492. G.L.505-578.

1. Gear Box and diaphragm in good condition.
2. Condition of gear teeth is good.
3. Synchro-Mesh
The 3rd. and 4th. speed operating stirrup has worn on the sides to the extent of .010". These appear to give satisfaction on production boxes, and it is thought that the wear may have developed during the course of special tests either before or after the 10,000 miles test.
4. Selectors
These are in good condition. It should be noted they are produced in S/N. and not hardened.
5. End caps have been forced out of selector plunger housing possibly as a result of adjustments carried out in France.

3rd. Motion Shaft

1. The 2nd. speed driving gear bush has seized to the shaft and the gear has been rotating on the outside of the bearing. This is, of course, the EX. scheme which has now been superseded.
2. A good deal of the slack in the transmission is accounted for by the internal splines on the 3rd. and 4th. speed sliding piece digging into the splines on the 3rd. Motion Shaft.
3. The centre ball bearing N.639 has been rotating on the shaft. The splines all shew signs of wear on driving faces. In the region of the 1st. speed gear the splines also shew signs of wear on the over-run side. Total end float in the gears has increased from .003" to .008".

Servo Motor Mechanism. RR. Schemes 156-193

In good condition generally. The servo worm is in good condition, but is subject to the .008" end float on 3rd. Motion Shaft.
