619. R.{Sir Henry Royce} Poop. Have we had any trouble in the garage Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} To: BT.{Capt. J. S. Burt - Engineer} Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} De. WRAITH KLINGERIT CYLINDER HEAD GASKET Owing to a sticking exhaust valve, we recently had to remove the Cylinder head from 27.G.VI. after a mileage of 10,160. We experienced considerable difficulty in doing so, due to adhesion of the Klingerit gasket. We make no provision for levering a "stuck" cylinder head. We have not experienced this trouble before, but have not run more than 5,000 miles at a time before removing the cylinder head. A copper asbestos gasket was used when replacing the head, as a Klingerit gasket was not available. We will take an early opportunity of fitting a new Klingerit washer with the joint faces oiled. This material makes an excellent joint, and is considerably cheaper than the C & A type. S.P.O was still running like this when Prof/FD{Frank Dodd - Bodies} was left. | ||
