LES 4696 To EF. from HDY. {William Hardy} HDY. {William Hardy} 1/HP.30.10.34. c. Wcr. E. {Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} Hs. {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} Da. {Bernard Day - Chassis Design} PLC. He/LES. Rm {William Robotham - Chief Engineer} Damper Control Pump. N. Sch.4187 herewith shows springs applied to the suction and delivery ball valves of this pump, the object being to render them less susceptible to foreign matter in the pump system. We have supposed that the suction side can stand an increase of resistance of 2 lbs.sq.in. and the delivery 6 lbs.sq.in.without detriment to the pump efficiency. This scheme can be tested in an existing casing by the use of a release valve with a short thread but for production we should prefer the scheme shown on the left with a slightly modified casing.
