SC. WOR.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} } FROM R.{Sir Henry Royce} R1/M14.6.32. C. to HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} BENSPORT STARTER. ----------------- (1) Firstly, from a technical point of view I do not like making a new car with a crash starter pinion, but on this I am willing to give way. (2) Secondly, as a production programme such as would be set by the Americans, the Peregrine starter would be exactly the same as Bensport, or the total cost of making them differently would be greater. (3) Thirdly, if we have two starter motors to get right it will take time. (4) Fourthly, we do not think it will matter greatly if the starter for Bensport and Peregrine are the same, as it is an almost entirely hidden part. (5) Fifthly, my experience is that if we help Lucas or any other accessory firm with their production to get them nearer perfection, we shall find our work on our competitor's cars almost, or entirely, as good as we can supply the same thing to our customers. This has been actually done to our Company several times. Tomorrow (Thursday) we can discuss this. R.{Sir Henry Royce} | ||
