Harold Whyman - Experimental Manager}12/OH.12.3.42. Chassis 30.G.VII Unit B.80.No.5. Work carried out at Clan Foundry 23.2.42 - 9.3.42. Speedometer Reading 94495. Total Mileage of Chassis Parts 94495. Engine Mileage 89937. This car was involved in an accident which necessitated the complete dismantle of the Front Suspension and Steering for examination and crack testing of vital parts. The frame was bent on the near side channel in front of the front pan, this has been straightened cold. BUMPER. The Bumper Bar was badly bent on the near side and this had to be heated to straighten, thus destroying the temper of the spring blade at the end. Both Bumper Bar Brackets which were made in Allum Bronze were badly bent and have been replaced with ones of steel. Piece No. FB.4031 to-gether with 6 new bolts K.314. ENGINE MOUNTING. The near side front engine mounting bracket was found broken across the neck of the sharp set in the plate, this was an old fracture and not due to the accident, the bracket replaced by a new one. Piece No.FW.1968/70. Both front engine mounting rubber blocks had collapsed. These have been changed for new ones. FRONT SUSPENSION. This has been completely dismantled. The near side Triangle Lever was bent and was sent to Derby Works together with Pivot and Yoke for crack testing. The Pivot and Yoke were found O.K., but the triangle lever was straightened and heat treated, but on inspection a fair sized blow hole was found in the neck of the Jaw at the Pivot End; -continued- | ||
