X.4181c. WATFORD EO6 MAGNETO NO.58663.

An examination of the component parts of the above magneto has been made, and the following points observed:-

(a) Oil and carbon dust collected on the insulated flanges of the slip ring and also on the insulation of the H.T. collector brush.

(b) Fibre deposit and dust from the friction brake on the distributor wheel shaft, has mixed with the surplus oil from the bearing nearest the wheel and has found its way to the bearing at the opposite end of the housing covering the balls with a red film.

(c) The rivets securing the iron sleeves to the brass securing ring have worked wry loose, causing the sleeves to rattle when running in position, i.e. when the armature core flux rises and falls.

(d) Rather a slack fit of the sleeve securing ring into the end housing.

The other parts of the magneto appear quite O.K.
