PHANTOM STEERING. X8470

We attach herewith a print of a scheme which has been got out by the D.O. for applying friction to the lightened type axle. This scheme is similar to the W.W. desbgn for 20 HP.

Our recent tests have confirmed that friction added to the steering is desirable. We require it firstly to avoid low speed wobbles, and secondly it does reduce the small irritating movement of the steering wheel. This scheme is being tested out in France and on cars here. It provides a means of adding the necessary friction until such times as the hydraulic scheme which you propose has been proved.
