X4429 GOSHAWK 11. BUMPING TEST. X4329 X4219

We have completed 105 hours bumping test on the rear of the Goshawk chassis. The frame was built up with the improved bracket for the front end of the rear spring, also rear shock absorbers were fitted. During the run we had the following failures -

N.S. rear spring - Firths top and 2nd. leaf broke after 16 hours
N.S. front spring - " " 21 "
N.S. rear spring - special Woodhead " 29 1/2 "
N.S. rear spring - Standard Woodhead " 31 "
N.S. rear spring - " " " 28 "
N.S. rear spring - special " 85 "

The rear axle used on this test had been used on a previous bump test - it has now completed 182 hours.

We adjusted the ball ends for the shock absorbers four times during the run. The shock absorbers were lubricated daily or after every 6 or 7 hours running.

We consider the result of this test very satisfactory. It was carried out under the same conditions as we used for the 40/50 H.P. and the results compare very favourably with the 40/50.

The next time we run the bump test will be on the front of the chassis with thicker frame, new dumb irons, new front axle, new steering levers, pivots etc.
