GW.1811. C.I. BRAKE SHOES FOR WRAITH REAR BRAKES.

Tool Department complain of the pivot bosses protruding outside the circle of the external machining. We have had this for years on alum. shoes. It is the C.I. or C.Steel which is causing the query.

RM {William Robotham - Chief Engineer} /AFM. {Anthony F. Martindale} is expecting to be able to recommend the elimination of the tipping shoes on the rear brakes and wants a scheme for steel shoes of the Girling rolled section type, without tipping shoes. It occurs to me that we might combine these two requirements by designing non-tipping Girling shoes, which do not need machining on the outside and which therefore would remove the Tool Department's difficulty without altering the pivot centres. Experimental Department are nervous about moving the centres, on account of increased wrapping.

We shall have to seize an early opportunity of doing this design.

In the meantime we think Tool Department should either hold up their tooling on the Wraith rear shoes, or carry on with the pivots in their present position until the above points are settled.
