87960. HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} RECEIVED 25 APR 1931 To Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} from Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} Copy to R.{Sir Henry Royce} Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} re 58-GN. Sg{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}7/E24.4.31 In a recent memo. from you you asked for an expression of opinion in regard to this car since the rear engine feet were removed. So far as concerns the improvement which we all agreed had been effected when we first tried the car, this is still maintained. I refer to the roar, noise, fuss or boom at 50/60 miles per hour and which was particularly noticeable immediately one decelerated. You enquired in your memo. as to whether the removal of the engine feet had shown up any other points in an unsatisfactory degree such as jellying, movement of bonnet etc. Unfortunately I have not been able to give the car any extensive country use since these alterations were made, but I asked PN{Mr Northey} specially to take the car out and test it from this point of view, and he says that the amount of jellying resulting from the modification is remarkably small but that the spare wheel with its bracket situated on the off side shows more vibrationary movement than would appear to be desirable. You will remember you did not stay this as in the case of [strikethrough]LHSix[/strikethrough] LHS{Lord Herbert Scott}'s car which had a similar modification. Perhaps you could send the necessary parts so that I could have this done at N. Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} | ||
