X.4383-- RE GOSHAWK DYNAMO. X4331

On the dynamo which we recently had from up-to-date production for the purpose of carrying out commutation and brush tests, asked for in one of Mr. Royce's recent notes, some imperfection in commutation has been caused by the mica either not being completely cleared in under-cutting, or else having moved up subsequently to the under-cutting.
There is no question but that some mica has been against the sides of the segments, and before proceeding with our tests satisfactorily we have had to have this completely cleared away.
It is therefore of importance that this matter be looked into as it may be a source of imperfect commutation, i.e. blackening, etc.
