Dictated 16.6.36. re BENTLEY CHASSIS NO. B.89-CW. With reference to your E/Lid.{A. J. Lidsey}3/HP. 12.6.36., we do not understand why no spring washers were fitted under the nuts on the steering box bracket. Our records show that the steering box has never been dismantled or received attention when the car has been in this Department. We can recall two previous cases where these bolts have worked loose although we believe that spring washers were fitted to the nuts. With regard to the pivot pins, the latest modifications have already been carried out on this car. We do not know that anything further can be done but we think that Mr. Dalton may attach more importance to the apparent wear than is necessary. The wear may appear greater than it really is when the axle is jacked up and Mr. Dalton may also be confusing the vertical lift of the pivots, which is standard.
