x8840. Hotel de France, Chateauroux, Indre, France. 16/12/30. To He/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} From G.W.H. Re Chassis 18-G-IV. The car generally is running quite wellbut is not possible with regard to the booms. These are decidedly better from 40 mph upwards as when they were when the car left Derby. But in lessening the boom period at the higher speed there is a more pronounced boom at 36 mph. Further tests will have to be made. The body as you are aware is an all round bad boomer. CLUTCH. The failure of the clutch is due either to two things, the tightness of the clutch spigot sleeve or the presser plate binding in the serrations when hot. We are dismantling the clutch to find the cause of the failure. STEERING. The steering of the car with the India Tyres, front 30 lbs, rear 30 lbs is quite good and up to any of our standard steering. Joggles are very slight and stability is very good. SPRINGING. The rear of the car is too lightly sprung for the conditions of the roads out here, more damping load is required. This will be attended to. SHOCK DAMPERS. These Shock Dampers are still quite OK and free from knocks. FRONT OF CAR. The Front of the car is not steady enough. The movement of the radiator is in excess of our standard practice. We are holding up the car to attend to the details mentioned. G.W.H. | ||
