X5840 To C.W.H. from Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} Hotel de France, Chateauroux, France. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}4/ME.17.12.30. It has been decided that 18-G-4 will complete its 10,000 miles test as soon as possible, and will then return to Derby. The idea is that we require this car for booming and springing tests here. We are proposing to send 16-G-4 out before the end of January fitted with low rating road springs, new luggage carrier, new front expansion box and various other parts. Will you therefore arrange that they shall push on with the mileage as soon as you have finished with the 5,000 miles examination. We should also like your opinion as to the state of booms and rattle in the servo gears, whether the rattle in the servo gears has got any worse. Roberts carried out some consumptions for us raising the radiator temperature to 80°C. We think these tests should be repeated withthe carburetter reset to give the correct mixture at the high temperatures, we should then expect still better consumptions than he recorded.
