Re.- Bentley Dynamo W-3-HK.{Col. T. Harker - Sales}
--------------------------------

With reference to the report from G.W.H., we had the above machine tested immediately upon receipt and found that the general performance was quite up to our standard specification, electrically.

On removing the end cover however, we found a considerable oil deposit on and around the bearing bracket which had apparently leaked through from the tachometer gearbox during transit. It should be mentioned at this juncture that if these machines are despatched or stored in a vertical position, this trouble is always liable to happen.

It was also noticed that on this particular dynamo which is a very early type, the oil had gained an easy exit through the hole where a screw had been deleted and on further enquiry found that this procedure had been sanctioned by the D.O. on the first 50 machines of this type, the reasons being that a slight error occurred on the detail drawings which were rectified at a later date.

The hole in question is in such a position that oil could not have drained through when the machine was fitted to the chassis.

Regarding the small indents or cuts, we find that complaints were received some time ago and this was traced to the metal part of the spider coupling coming in contact with the fan bosses when assembling the dynamo in position on the engine. This matter has since been rectified and the coupling spiders have been altered to overcome the trouble.

To overcome further oiling difficulties in transit, we propose :-

(1). To fit all repair Dynamos of this type with the modified idler wheel support bracket, bearing the correct screw hole positions.
