BIJUR SYSTEM - LUBRICATION OF AXLES.

We find that under the existing Instruction Book recommendations, insufficient oil is supplied for axle lubrication. If the gun be put on the axle, and the handle merely screwed up solid once, then only about half a teaspoonful of oil will penetrate the felt filters on the axles. We now recommend:-

(1) Only engine oil be used in the oil-gun all the year round. Gear oil will still be used in the Bijur tank in the summer or in tropical countries. This is satisfactory for all oil gun points.

(2) The gun should be put on the axle and screwed up until solid. This indicates that oil has commenced to enter the axle. One complete turn should now be given to the gun handle, which give a quarter of an inch travel of the piston. This may take a minute or so, and may require frequent pauses, as the gun must not be forced.

The above procedure should be repeated at the recommended intervals of every 500 miles, or once a week. We have satisfied ourselves that there is no risk of bursting the pipe system. All oil guns should now be kept filled with engine oil. In the case of cars in which undue resistance to the oil flow is experienced, a fresh felt filter in the nipple will be found to help.
