contd :- -7- Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/LG29.9.26 the movement of the linkage should be reduced by lowering Cap E.72495 and reducing the thickness of its packing washer. It is very important that the limit of the movement of the automatic advance should be dictated by the position of Cap E.72495 and not the movement of the controls. Unless this is so, the controls will undoubtedly be strained owing to the very powerful force which can be exerted by the oil relay. It is desirable that the working of the relay should actually be checked on the car before it leaves the Depot. This can be accomplished in the same manner as the initial test for the complete unit, the extension to lever E.72578 being so made that it can be fitted when the other controls are coupled up to the relay. The angular movement of the lever E.72518 should then conform with the specified curve. In the case of grit causing trouble in the relay, the small inner piston should be removed as described in the Instruction Book. In the case of the cup leather failing, and this is a most probable source of trouble with the relay, the Piston E.72509 (described as X. in the Instruction Book) which carries it should be removed as follows :- (a) Remove small piston as described in Instruction Book. (b) Remove the 4 nuts holding piston chamber on to the crankcase and remove chamber complete. (c) Invert chamber and extract piston which should fall out by its own weight. contd :- | ||
