CUP LEATHER FITTING.

When the new cup leather is fitted E.72502 it should be a very easy fit in the bore of the chamber E.72376. When assembled the piston E.72509 should just slide down the bore under its own weight, very thin oil being used as a lubricant.

OIL RELAY ASSEMBLY.

Particular attention should be paid to the cleanliness of the Piston E.72509 - E.72503, and the chamber E.72376 as any suspicion of grit on these parts is sufficient to cause serious trouble and prevent the relay from functioning.

POSSIBLE SOURCES OF TROUBLE.

(1) The commencement of ignition advance is delayed.
This may be due to :-
(a) Cup leather perished or worn out.
(b) Any internal friction in governor.
(c) Grit between the two pistons.
(d) Stiffness of the controls.

(2) Ignition will not return from the fully advanced position.
This may be due to :-
(a) Grit between the two pistons.
(b) The neck of Lever E.72459 fouling the top of Piston E.72503 when the governor is fully extended.
(c) Stiff controls or magneto sleeve.

Stiffness in the controls occasioned by a tight magneto sleeve or any other cause will obviously affect the relay in any one of the three ways enumerated.
