-2- FLYWHEEL PERIOD. AT 60 MPH. We should like you to persevere with the rubber in the rear crossmember increasing the flexibility at this point until you do find a reduction in the flywheel period. The reason we ask you to do this is, though we can move the flywheel period about, we find it very difficult to eliminate it. EXHAUST SYSTEM. We have confirmed your results that removing the support from the fishtail reduces the boom in the system. I examined the method by which Buick hold their silencer up yesterday, and found that they clipped the pipe to the engine where it passed a point equivalent to where our starter motor is fitted, and the first attachment to the frame was at the rear end of the expansion box. This was flexible to the extent that there was a slab of rubber between the support and the frame. We note that in your note of 27.2.33. you appear to have steadied the pipe by fixing it to the engine. However, if you can look at one of the Buicks you will be able to get slightly better arrangement. CLUTCH JAGGERS. I believe that your clutch jaggers are partially due to the very bad road conditions which you are experiencing. I took a 40/50 through some floods yesterday and somehow the water penetrated to the clutch fabrics, the result was the most hair-raising clutch jaggers. We have a second Peregrine fitted up here with the spring drive in the clutch plate and have got quite a sweet engagement. OIL CONSUMPTION. We know that we have given you a lot to do and this last test is less important than reducing the oil temperature, but by means of your Potts cooler that dropped the oil temperature 20oC can you find if this has any effect on the oil consumption. At the moment it appears that we may have to go to scraper rings and find that when we have got our oil temperature down, we shall not require them. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rn.{Mr Robinson} | ||
