While examining the pistons removed from the above car, the following was observed and measured up. Grooves for rings. The top ring revolves and wears both top and bottom of groove. The second ring only wears bottom of groove, carbon on top side. The third ring only wears bottom of groove, carbon on top side. The top ring wears more than second or third, and leaves a very fine edge in contact with the piston, see sketch, second ring also, but not the same amount.
