ROLLS-ROYCE OF AMERICA, INC. SPRINGFIELD, MASS. X832 OY1.R.1.11.28 January 11th, 1928. Mr. Robotham, Rolls Royce Ltd., Derby, England. Dear Mr. Robotham: RE SHOCK ABSORBERS. In connection with my personal note of January 2nd, the attached is copy of a laboratory report on various oils for use in shock absorbers. Apparently least foaming is with 80% Castor and 20% alcohol. We propose to try this. It is a mixture which is used we understand in other shock absorbers, although we believe the American Houdaille uses glycerine and alcohol. The castor oil alcohol mixtures are also used in Hydraulic braking systems. Very truly yours, Maurice Olley MO/R Encl. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} Suggest we write OY re our experiments in castor oil. HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} | ||
