S/W. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} c. to EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}, Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} BY, c.PN.{Mr Northey} Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} 87410. Cx{Major Len W. Cox - Advertising Manager}8/KW18.6.31. 87410. K3410. Springing of R-R Cars. KT13.6.31 - the information you give us is of great interest and value. It will help us, I think, to more definitely specify to the Works what a customer is likely best to be satisfied with, arising out of our knowledge of his requirements, which we always endeavour to obtain. There is however one point which I would like you to make clear in connection with the 40/50 h.p. chassis. You refer to the Sports High Speed Car Control with 2.2" deflection in front and 6.1" deflection at the rear, would you please state whether this is specifically what is fitted to the Continental Touring Saloon short type chassis or whether it is something different from that for fitting to the long type full sized car in the case of a man who wants that type of car but who habitually drives fast ? His are quite different requirements from the purchaser of the Continental Touring Saloon which has a small light body on it. If, therefore, there is any difference between the Continental Touring Saloon springing and that of the long type full sized heavy car required for high speed work, would you kindly inform us. If not, would you please state if it is intended in such cases where the long chassis and big body are concerned, to fit special springs and possibly Hartford shock absorbers similar to the Continental model ?
