Bentley Chassis - Front Mudwings.

With the adoption of concealed front cross members and mudwings over the frame on Phantom II, LA.{L. A. Archer} reports that the coachbuilders have no satisfactory treatment for preventing the mud from running in and filling the inside of the dumb irons, and thereby causing damage to conduits, wiring etc.

The Bentley chassis are just coming on test with the same scheme, and we feel that something should be done forthwith to prevent this trouble arising.

We have therefore prepared a scheme, in which we fit dumb iron covers that shut in the frame and form a seal with the mudguard.

EY. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} By/Clough and EV.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} have examined this scheme and recommend action as in the attached note E.3/HP.18.1.35.

Would you kindly say if you are agreeable to this being done,

We have in preparation similar schemes for Phantom and 20/25.

This also covers the modification to Bentley cancelling narrow front apron - RR. Sch.733 which has never been approved and the appearance of which has been condemned by Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}
