Expl. Dept. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}2/MJ. 7th. May-1932. The S.U.Company, East Works, Bordesley Green Road, Adderley Park, BIRMINGHAM. For the attention of Mr. Skinner. Dear Mr. Skinner, Thank you so much for the information re the Petrolift. I am sorry that we appear to have caused the failure on the one we returned to you by being heavy handed. All those we are running at the Works are giving us complete satisfaction. The only criticism we have had is that they are noisy pumping dry. With regard to carburetters, I expect you will realise that during my absence in America it was decided not to fit S.U. carburetters to the existing R.R. models. However, the tests we carried out on them were so successful that if ever we do fit a carburetter that is not of R.R. manufacture I think it will be an S.U. We are still conducting various tests on them. One point on which we have convinced Sir Henry Royce is the excellence of the central guide for the air valve, and he is contemplating using it on our own carburetter. Could you tell us whether you have a patent on this central guide because if so, you are in danger of receiving royalties from us. Cont'd........ | ||
