c. to Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} +8040 BY/CS1/DB.{Donald Bastow - Suspensions}16.12.27. Re EAC.14 - Piston - Sec:5040. Please receive herewith prints of each of the following drawings, detailed from LeC.2490/2:- E.76933 - Lock Washer. E.76934 - Bolt.(Gudgeon Pin). E.76935 - End Plug.(Gudgeon Pin). E.76936 - Gudgeon Pin. E.76937 - Stiffening Plate. E.76938 - Gudgeon Pin Bracket. E.76939 - Piston. Will you please instruct up these parts as required for Sports' Chassis only, together with the following parts to complete:- E.76599 - Plug 24 off. E.76602 - Taper Pin. 12 off. E.76880 - Piston Ring. 6 off. E.76881 - Piston Ring. 18 off. E.76883 - Piston Ring Stop. 6 off. E.76884 - Piston Ring Stop. 18 off. K.3503 - 1BA Bolt. 12 off. K.4007 - 1BA Nut. 36 off. It should be noted that Mr Bailey has instructed us to delete the eccentric grinding off piston skirt, and make same both parallel and concentric with finer clearances, say 1 1/2 thou, making skirt dia: 4.2485-1/2 (we consider this grinding operation is done with stiffener in position), the upper portion of piston being ground to standard dimensions E.73580. The above is being tried on account of the presence of the stiffener, which controls the expansion of the skirt, and as the expansion of this is practically the same as that of the cylinder barrel, it is felt that the clearances will be maintained through varying temperatures. Will Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} please let Mr Bailey have his comments in this connection, at the earliest. BY/CS. | ||
