-2- (2) REF. BJ17/DB{Donald Bastow - Suspensions}27.10.20. LOW GEARED AXLE. The above letter was brought before the Conference. Firstly - The policy of using lower geared axle on our cars than the 15/52 which was recently standardised, has already been agreed to by H.{Arthur M. Hanbury - Head Complaints} in his R1s/S12.10.20. So far, however, no designs of these lower geared axles have been sent to Experimental Dept. Secondly - The Conference was not at all in agreement with the statements in BJ17/DB{Donald Bastow - Suspensions}27.10.20 that it is practically never possible to accelerate the car up to 50m.p.h. and that the car seldoms goes at more than 35/40.m.p.h. Thirdly - Of the complaints received of post-war cars, the chief of these is not being able to travel fast enough, although we can demonstrate these cars can easily reach 60.m.p.h. The Conference think we ought to have some practical experience from customers who own chassis with the 15 tooth axle, which has just been standardised, before we standardise the 14 tooth axle.
