Bailey - Chief Engineer} Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} Wd.{Mr Wood/Mr Whitehead} Hm.{Capt. W. Hallam - Head Repairs} EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}/Mr.Maddocks. Hy.{Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer} (1) RE CHASSIS NO.2457. - Watkin Williams Esq. A copy of the second paragraph of part 4, Inspection Report NO.1790, as follows, was handed to the Works Committee:- "The steering had been much raked, the pedals and "gear and brake levers bent, dash and radiator raised, "the bonnet, which is polished, is very shoddy, - too "thin and the clips not fitting on the strips. The "steering column had no tie bar to the cross member, but "is merely tied to the dash. All these alterations "appear to have stood the test of time, but I imagined "that W. would consider them coming under the head "Dangerous", so I felt precluded from making the road "test the owner had wished. Also from making any "adjustments, eg. the extra oil valve was entirely "stuck down and out of operation, and the low speed jet "was very stiff." The Works Committee are of the following opinion - The point as to whether any bedevilment is dangerous or not should not be decided by the London Inspection Dept., but should be left to a Works Technical Committee. If necessary, a technical man from W. should visit the car after the inspector's report is received, and he will report details to the Works Technical Committee. This was explained in the minutes of the conference of the 24/5/20. As far as is known, a list of dangerous parts has been sent to H.{Arthur M. Hanbury - Head Complaints} In view of this, the Works Committee consider that this inspection has not been carried out in the best interests of the Company, and the inspector should most certainly have attended to the sticking extra oil valve, and carburetter jet. Also that H.{Arthur M. Hanbury - Head Complaints} should see the inspectors carry out correctly the instructions regarding bedevilled cars. | ||
