To EFC. from R.{Sir Henry Royce} -2- R6/G12618. taking an engine like the Falcon which is always started by swinging the propeller, one might, with certain precautions, find out how quickly the engine could be running backwards before such a fault could occur with the ignition arranged as we have suggested, namely, (1) Ratio of between .66 and .75 timing of contact. (2) Distributor advanced and retarded with the contact breaker. (3) Jump spark distributor with the leading edge of the electrodes just coming opposite when the spark occurs. (4) Long trailing segment to the electrode reaching half the angular pitch of the distributor points. (5) Ample retard.
