X.3173 X.800 X.3299 X.3199 - RE ENGINE RUNNING BACKWARDS ON BATTERY IGNITION With reference to the possibility of an aero engine running backwards on battery ignition, we have endeavoured to examine the conditions under which this is possible. Our main reason for doing this is that we have not always been clear, when this matter has been referred to, what particular condition has been in mind. For this purpose we classify the various conditions according to the table below:- A.{Mr Adams} Jump Spark Distributor B. Wipe Contact Distributor. (1) Distributor not advanced with contact maker. (a) Fully advanced. (b) Fully retarded. (m) Half way position. (2) Distributor advanced with contact breaker. (a) Fully advanced. (b) Fully retarded. (m) Half way position. We will assume that the make ratio of the contact breaker is in the neighbourhood of .7, that the firing point for the engine in the fully advanced position is 35° B.D.C. and in the fully retarded position 9° A.D.C. giving a | ||
