Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}6/ML.13.5.40.

Attached is a copy of a letter I have received from Wilks regarding Mr. Morley, Mr Morley's letter to Wilks, and my reply.

You will observe in the original letter which I received from Wilks and sent to you, at the end of the first paragraph "...you will realise that we do not want to be brought into the matter at all, directly or by inference."

You will appreciate that you have put me in an exceedingly awkward position because you will realise that, whether you brought in the Rover Company's name directly or not, whatever you have done has clearly indicated to Mr. Morley the source of the evidence we have against him.

The Rover Company are very good friends of mine and I feel exceedingly sore about the fact that we have betrayed their confidence; possibly you would like to write to them yourself and explain that it was through no fault of mine that he was let down.

Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}
