Dear Wilks,

I am exceedingly sorry that the name of the Rover Company has been brought up in connection with the letter from Mr. Morley which you sent to me in confidence.

I passed the correspondence on, complete, to Mr. Morley's Departmental Head and did not anticipate for one moment that the gentleman in question should be so indiscreet as to involve the Rover Company's name, particularly as he had your request on the subject before him.

On enquiry, I find that at no time did he mention the source of the information; the fact that the Rover Company had passed on his letter must therefore have been deduced by inference.

I must still take the blame for not personally ensuring that the confidential information which you supplied was not abused. The situation might have been saved had I not been away for the past fortnight on sick leave.

I have, however, asked Mr Wood, to write to you and explain what actually happened.

Please accept my sincere apologies.

Yours sincerely,
