Watford EO.6 Magnetos.

Upon receipt of Mxll/T3.5.26 and By4/H4.5.26, we wrote North & Sons Ltd. and returned to them the two magnetos Nos. 89412 and 88659 which had been found defective inasmuch as the make-and-break cover mechanism became stiff when the magnetos were warmed up.

We asked Norths to examine the magnetos and XXXXX test them when heated up to 75°C. on a hot plate. This was as far back as 5th ult. and since that date we have reminded Norths on more than one occasion that we were expecting their report.

On or about 2nd inst. we received from Norths magneto No.89412 and same was immediately sent to Mx. {John H Maddocks - Chief Proving Officer} , but no report on said magneto had reached us from Norths; therefore we wrote them again reviewing the whole of the circumstances and asking them to let us have their reply forthwith.

We have now received a letter dated 9th inst., copy of which is attached.

You will note that in said letter Norths state they were unable to detect the fault complained of in the two magnetos Nos.89412 and 88659 returned to them.

You will note that a report on a further 4 machines returned for the same fault will be sent to us today and same shall be communicated to you on receipt.

As Mx. {John H Maddocks - Chief Proving Officer} reports that similar trouble has occurred on no less than 8 magnetos during test last week, do you think it advisable that Mr.North or Mr.Allen, or both said gentlemen, be asked to come here to discuss the matter.

Wd. {Mr Wood / Mr Whitehead}
