X.3727. To Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} from Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} c. to By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} c. to Sft.{Mr Swift} Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}5/LG30.4.20. X.3727. RE - R-R RADIATORS. We have now altogether had three failures on Radiators made at the works here and in all cases they have been due to faulty "D" tubes. We have had no cases where the round tubes have given trouble. or where the soldered joints have given trouble. The leaks have been caused due to the "D" tubes splitting. We consider this is a very serious matter now that we are embarking on the manufacture of radiators and we think that some action must be taken by the works to see that radiators are not built up with "D" war tubes which are likely to give similar trouble to what we have had.
