Further to our memo reference Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/HH.3/SW.22.5.41., and in answer to TB/KNG.1/JT.26.5.41., we would point out that we erroneously read TB/KNG's observations on the flame hardening process as an indication that this method was adaptable to our existing equipment. We are disappointed that we cannot try a pair of shafts with the cam tips hardened by the flame process, and would therefore request TB/KNG. to produce four shafts as chill hardened in "Nichromol" i.e., 2 off - RE.2440 and 2 off - RE.2441. We attach prints of these drawings to TB/KNG's copy of this memo. In view of the further information received will all concerned kindly note that alteration to LOP.RE.1682 No.316/RE. will now add only RE.2440/1 (Nichromol chill hardened shafts) as alternatives with RE.2422/3 (Shafts in S/ZN, case hardened in the usual manner). This alteration was referred to in our memo Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/HH.3/SW.22.5.41. Kindly instruct up as required. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/HH. | ||
