J.{Mr Johnson W.M.} 3. - RADIATOR SHUTTERS.

We send herewith N. sch. 3415, showing an oval shaped shutter as suggested by Derby on fig. 3. of Sch. 1477., adapted to be interchangeable with our present shutter, on J.{Mr Johnson W.M.} 3., and also P. 2. and the 25HP.

Our aim has been to fill in the ends of the tube with a die casting or stamping so as to avoid having to profile mill to fit the odd internal shape of the tube.

For the first J.{Mr Johnson W.M.} 3. radiator which will not have a loose shell, stainless steel shutters will be needed, and the end fitting is pressed in and riveted only. With the chromium plated shell, chromium plated shutters will be needed, in mild steel, and it may be desired to sweat as well.

Three schemes are shewn, which we prefer in the order of 3. 2. and 1.

SCH. 1.
This follows present practice. The shutter bearing casting at the top is raised .062 to hide the small levers behind the face of the tank.

SCH. 2.
If the provision of a shoulder on the die pressing is difficult, and calls for machining, we shew in fig. 2. the lever forming the finishing plate. We like this scheme.

SCH. 3.
The only thing we would like better would be (3), where the levers and filling-in piece are all one die pressing in Fixtampo or other suitable metal.
