Standardisation of a modified 20 HP Starter Drive to improve reliability.

STARTER DRIVE. Origin. To improve reliability. Experimental Test Report. It has been proved that failures of the present 20 HP. starter is frequently caused by the pinion binding against the stop. The modified stop has circumferential teeth and this cannot occur. Road Test Report. Run on 11-G-111 500 miles. 500 starts made with this starter equivalent to at least 10,000 miles. Recommended for immediate standardisation. A Scrap and replace at all costs, including Chassis already delivered to Customers. B Scrap and replace on Chassis in Works. C Scrap present stock and replace on all Chassis not yet handed to test. D Use existing stock Alteration effective on future Chassis.
