R.R. 235 (1001) (M 96. 24.2.10) E.P. 6128. INVESTIGATION OF OTHER MAKES OF CARS Z535 75th Meeting Nov. 15. 11. Re Wheel Base (Fiat) Mr Nadin submitted a memo which he had received from Mr Johnson, as follows - "A 45 h.p. 4-cylinder Fiat, having a wheel base 1 ft shorter than our car, turned in a circle of 5 ft. smaller diameter. What should the 1 ft mean in diam? I think we ought to see how the Fiat people have arrived at this." Mr Nadin said he had spoken to Mr Spinney about this matter, and he reported as follows:- "One foot difference in a wheelbase like ours makes about four feet difference in lock-circle diameter. The side steering tube prevents out getting a smaller R.H. circle. 1. Steering wheel base, 142", no slipper drive, diameter of right hand turning circle 47 ft. 2. Steering wheel base 143¾", slipper drive, diameter of right hand turning circle, 47 ft. 10 ins. 3. A car similar to No. 2. but with one foot less wheel base, diameter of right hand turning circle, 43ft. 10 ins. Left hand turning circles are about 3 ft. less than right." | ||
