For the attention of Mr.Hill.

Dear Sirs,

We have decided that it is very inconvenient to modify our Phantom III. rear drums in the manner required by you, and that we will only experiment with the front drums in "Lepaz".

Will you be so kind as to complete your tender for front drums upon receipt of which we will order samples for test purposes.

As regards squeaking troubles, this is not necessarily an insuperable difficulty, but we are not prepared to go any further with Bentley size drums just now. We have advised our Managing Director and General Works Manager that "Lepaz" is by no means immune from squeaking troubles, which indeed we demonstrated to your Mr. Pease. On changing the rear drums to our standard material the squeak stopped and did not recur. The "Lepaz" drums were put on another car which after some miles started to squeak. Now we are measuring the coefficient of friction between "Lepaz" and various Ferodo materials, and when we have these figures we will communicate with you again.

Yours faithfully,

FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LIMITED.
