Martindale}9/JH.2.11.36. Phantom III Hand Brake Adjustment. G.W.Hancock has complained that production Phantom III cars have their hand brakes set so that 4 notches are taken up on the lever when the car is parked, leaving only 3 notches for wear, stretch of cables etc. We think it would be better to set this brake rather closer, so that only 2 notches could be taken up when parking, as on a number of Experimental cars the hand brake has unexpectedly been pulled to the limit of its travel, where it has been known to stick. Since Phantom III hand brake has a much lower overall ratio than Phantom II had; this change of setting will not bring the shoes any closer to the brake drum, than they were set on Phantom II; and we have no trouble on experimental cars due to hand brakes seizing although we use this close setting.
